I would love to see this project reignited. As for the dimensions of the cnc electronics box, when we last did measurements we specified that the box should be 50cmx25cmx40cm (ideal case). I made rough draft (very initial) sketchup model of how the pieces could be arranged in the box base partially on measurements we took of the electronics. Nothing in the model should be taken seriously. I attached a few pictures and the sketchup model.
Parts of the pieces in the model are from measurements we took. These are the dimensions we took. I don't remember how accurate they are. I think we took measurements that were over (to compensate for wires coming from the rear of the controllers):
spindle controller: 14cmx20cmx15cm
x,y an z drivers (size of each): 6cmx16cmx20cm
The rest of the the parts on the model I downloaded from sketchup 3d warehouse so I'm not sure about their dimensions.
we have to check if it is possible to rearrange the pieces to make them fit into Gal's metal Cabinet. We have to take into account that some part need a certain orientation, from what I recall the drivers need to stand on their sides in order to have access to wires (its been a few moths so I could be mistaken).
Hope this helps
Gil

Subject: Re: Cnc
The cables are shielded.
I don't know why it is not writen but as you can see they had not yet made a PDF for it with the info.
it is a new item they are selling, I don't even have it on my price list.
I believe Lapp will cost about 5-15 Nis
I have LAPP regular (not robotic) 8 strand encoder cable in my stock but the cable at TAMI is better.
* I write alot of times Encoder cable and I mean a 5 or 8 multi strand, flexy cable with net shield (not foil with string) specific
for working with encoders and resolvers.
The cat6 iflex cable is not made for repeated moving ystems,
it is made for easy installation in tubes or places that are not
easy to place the regular cable.
And for systems not moving alot - kiosk station and stuff like that
×ת×ך×× ××× ×š×××¢×, 24 ×ס׀×××ך 2014 02:28:41 UTC+3, ××ת Guy Ovadia:if I understand correctly, these cables are unshielded. The manufacturer of the motors + drives highly recommends shielded cables. Lapp sounds great (if we get the shielded type) but wouldn't it be like 5-10$ per meter?
note that the CAT-6 cable I considered is the multi-strand (flexible) cable type, not the rigid single-strand (solid conductor) CAT-6 cable, which can break under repeated mechanical stress.

Guy,
Go to http://www.ateksensor.com/
there, under the accessories tab you can see EP-8 cable.
This is the information I have, more information is writen on the cables that are at TAMI.
The cables are 8x0.34mm on each starnd.
these cables are left overs that I have from linear scale and encoders I installed on Press brake machines
(Same web site Magnetic Linear scale\Rotary Encoders tabs)
and they are very good and the diameter is good for this job.
I don't trust the cat-6 cable for a job like that
they are not ment for the mechanical work
the cable I had brought are from a higher quality
and if needed you can check LAPP CABLE
web site for the cable you want and I will ask their agent for a price offer,
I have a good discount and they are the best cables manufacturer in the world.

×ת×ך×× ××× ×©××ש×, 23 ×ס׀×××ך 2014 22:27:21 UTC+3, ××ת Guy Ovadia:gal, what are the specs of the cables you brought?
for the encoders we need shielded 8 conductor, multi-strand (meaning not solid copper), ideally 24 AWG or thicker for each strand. I thought of getting flexible cat-6 network cable such as this:
http://galaxyil.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=20_114&product_id=815
but if you have something equivalent / better, great!
for the power (motors and spindle) I already purchased a cable (4 conductor shielded, 18AWG)

Just to re-iterate, the cables Gal brought are specifically designed for robotics applications, which means they can sustain repeated mecanical bending; so, thank you Gal.

Hi,
it is 200mm external,
Ithink it is about 185mm internal becuse of the plate and the doo thicknes.
The only part that I had seen that may be on the edge with the depth is the inverter.
.but I had not taken any measurments of it
Next time I will be in the area I will come and check the measurment.

I'm the guy who brought this half-baked beast and I'm coordinating the work on it. thanks for the offer to help! I'd love to go back to that project, and there were some other people who contributed and may want to follow up.
I bought some required stuff for the recabling / control box build (which is the next big thing on the agenda). there are still some items to obtain, as well as some more planning to do. we can discuss this further and start working. one of the things missing is a suitable enclosure, maybe yours could help. Gil, Zvika, do you think the size Gal specified is enough? btw is the 20cm dimention an internal (net) measurement? if not, what's the internal size? the height is propbably the most limiting factor because of the dimensions of the drivers.
looking forward to go forward with this :)
Guy.

I really want to help and repeir this machine.
I have a lot of exp. with CNC machines, Frequency controllers, Servo, and all of the wiring and stuff.
: I also have a lot of equepment I can give for the making
Encoder/resolver high quality cables (3 cables are allready on the machine, needs to be installed)
I have a metal cabinet with a few holes but that can be repeired. SIZE : 500x600x200
I have several PLUGS I can give, they can fit to the power cables to the motors.
I have an order from one of my suppliers and I am waiting to receive a price offer for some infromation
plugs (SM16P8-M And SM16P8-F at the accessories section) to install on the cabinet and connect to them the encoder
If the price is good I will order a few units for the machine.
I may also have some cables for the motor power and the microswitches
My only problem is time,
I will do it slowly and will love some help.
